There is no reason to fear death if we honestly make a decision to trust Jesus and enter into a personal relationship with Him. But can any good come from it? Yes, because it can be an opportunity for spiritual growth. In this sermon, Dr. Stanley explores a biblical story of hopelessness and how Jesus can change our hopeless perspective into joy we can only imagine.
Our entire belief system is based on the promises of God, and we can trust Him to be faithful to keep them all. Many Christians are spiritually wealthy, but don't act like it and often choose to live as paupers. Unfortunately, many believers don't understand their true wealth. In this message, Dr. Stanley shares the rich promises to remember about our faith.
The entire Christian life is built on promises, including those for eternal life and resurrection. Stanley explains why we know God will keep His promises—because He is truthful, faithful, immutable, and loving. In fact, we use the word love rather loosely, ascribing it to the most treasured people in our lives as well as our trivial preferences.
Why do we experience so much weakness in our lives? It is only when we seek God, turn from our sin, and submit to His will that our nation—and our world—will be free. Your E-mail. I ask you now to take the wheel and direct this time spent with you. I thank you in advance for revealing yourself to me through your Word. In Jesus name I pray, amen. Many, many times after I do this I turn directly to a passage that literally jumps off the page at me because it directly addresses the struggle, prayers and celebrations the Lord just helped bring to the front of my thoughts. As I mentioned, sometimes I go into a time of study with very clear direction from the Lord. It takes practice to learn to hear God and you can rest assured that as long as your reading His Word, you are being blessed and planting seeds that will reap a good harvest.

There are daily devotional apps and of course good old fashioned devotional books. Devotionals are a wonderful tool for a couple of reasons.
First, they help guide you to a specific scripture to focus on, and second, they help provide thoughtful application for that scripture. Should you choose to use devotionals to help guide your time with the Lord, I would offer one bit of encouragement though — only use them as a guide TO scripture, not as a replacement for scripture. Yes, the devotional contains scripture, but friends, there is simply no substitute for the Word of God itself. If you use a devotional allow it to guide you to a scripture, but read it out of the Bible itself.

Then, take each chunk and link it back together in a way that made sense. The solution to both of these obstacles is also the solution to understanding the Bible in a way that helps you apply it. Rather than setting out to read passage after passage simply for the sake of reading the Bible front to back, try reading it in very small bits and pieces. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you and then choose a single verse or two.
Read it, then read it again. Read it in several translations. Read each single word individually. Look up and research each word. It becomes fun, like a treasure hunt! Read, study and love the Word of God. Before you begin, I highly recommend getting out a good old fashioned pen and paper to write out your SOAP.
